Padma Shri A S Kiran Kumar
Shri Alur Seelin Kiran Kumar is a space scientist and the current chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation. He is credited with the development of key scientific instruments aboard the Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan space crafts. In 2014, he was awarded the Padma Shri, for his contributions to the fields of science and technology. Kiran Kumar previously served as Director of Ahmedabad Space Applications Centre.
His area of specialization is Space borne Electro-optical imaging instruments. He has also contributed to the design and development of the imaging instruments for projects including Bhaskara TV, INSAT–3D, Resourcesat, Micro Satellite and Cartosat.
Kiran Kumar has received many awards, starting with the Indian Society of Remote Sensing Award in 1994, the Vasvik award in 1998, followed by the Astronautical Society of India Award in 2001. ISRO honoured Kumar with the Individual Service award in 2006. He received the Bhaskara Award of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing in 2007 and Team Achievement Award from International Academy of Astronautics in 2008.
