100 Degrees Kelvin

ABOUT

“100 Degrees Kelvin” is an all-around fun event that is all about the control of the mind over the mouth. Can you make it through 100 seconds of non-stop science talking without hesitation, repetition, or deviation? Or will the sheer pressure make you crumble and have your competitors pounce on you in an instant?

FORMAT

  • The challenge is simple. You are given a pair of words. One being Scientific and the other being a general word. You have to prepare a scientific hypothesis connecting those words and speak for 100 seconds.
  • The words are allotted on a random basis to the participant.
  • There will be two rounds which follow the same rules.
  • The points scheme is as follows :
    • The more convincing the hypothesis the better scoring (Marking on a 1-100 points basis).
    • The speaker can be jammed twice in between his speech. The one who jams can ask the speaker to explain some point he mentioned in his speech. The speaker has to reply that scientifically (Can be actual science or fiction, doesn’t matter) this should seem convincing to the judges which would give him 30 points else the person who jammed has to give a reply to that himself for which he gets 40 points and can continue to speak.
    • Speaking for each second accounts to 1 point.
    • Speaking for the whole 100 seconds doubles your score.
    • A steady rate of speech has to be maintained, if not marks will be deducted. This will be decided by the judges.
RULES

  • Students must have a valid College ID to participate.
  • It is an indivudual event
  • The organizers and the judges’ decision will be final and unnecessary tantrums and meaningless debates won’t be tolerated.
  • Usage of unparliamentary language won’t be tolerated and proper discipline has to be maintained.
